Small powerful ARM9 CPU module available

Trenz Electronic introduces Eddy V2.x Series, the second generation of low-cost real-time Linux-based networked micromodules.

Bünde (Germany), April 8, 2008

Trenz Electronic announces the availability of SystemBase Eddy V2.x Series, a family of ARM9-based networked micromodules equipped with Lemonix real-time Linux. Measuring just 25.0 x 42.0 mm, it is the smallest embedded module in its class. MMU (memory management unit) is now supported, enabling developers to explore and compile Linux sources on Eddy without constraints.

Eddy-CPU V2.x

Eddy-CPU is a high-performance embedded CPU module with a 32-bit ARM9 processor. This compact-sized Eddy-CPU module provides complete embedded network connectivity, allowing developers and OEMs to design their own custom devices that can be applied to almost any hardware environments. It features 32 MByte SDRAM, 4 MByte Flash, 2 UARTs, Ethernet connectivity (external magnetics required), 16-bit address and 8-bit data bus interface to connect to external devices, and 16 programmable GPIO pins.
Based on Eddy CPU, several modules are available to connect RS232 / RS422 / RS485 devices to the Network.

Eddy Serial to Ethernet Modules

Eddy serial to Ethernet compact-sized modules can be easily integrated on an existing hardware design, supporting 2 RS232 / RS422 / RS485 serial interfaces with up to 921.6 kbit/s. OEMs and developers can add network connectivity to their hardware design with these high-performance modules at a fraction of the time, with minimum effort. A Power over Ethernet (PoE) option is also available.

Eddy Serial to WiFi Modules

Eddy serial to WiFi modules provide developers and OEMs a flexible yet simple way to add wireless network connectivity (802.11b/g) to their serial RS232 / RS422 / RS485 devices with robust security.

Eddy Serial to Memory Module

Eddy serial to memory module is the ideal choice for applications with large memory storage requirements. It is equipped with a SDCard/SDIO and a USB host port, allowing the user to select the preferred storage medium and capacity. Data gathered and accumulated from serial RS232 / RS422 / RS485 devices can be saved to be sent over via Ethernet. It can also serve as an ideal backup storage solution in case of Ethernet communication failure.

Lemonix Real-Time Linux

Lemonix is an embedded real-time operating system built on Linux kernel 2.6.x. Standard Linux kernel 2.6.x has been revised to support real-time capabilities while retaining the stable traits and merits of Linux kernel 2.6.x. Real-time scheduler, preemptive kernel and lock-break methods have been implemented on Lemonix to guarantee a maximum response latency of under 37 µs enabling a stable and reliable means of real-time communication.

LemonIDE

LemonIDE is an integrated development environment (IDE) for Eddy modules. Built on open source Eclipse framework, LemonIDE provides an easy and effective GUI (graphical user interface) for application and firmware developments that run on Lemonix.

Pricing and availability

The Eddy-CPU V2.x is already available and is priced at around $49 in quantities of 2,000 units.
The Eddy modules and corresponding evaluation kits are available in multiple configurations for various requirements with all needed software. For an overview of available modules and single quantity prices, please visit shop.Trenz-Electronic.de.
