Avnet Electronics Marketing and Digilent, Inc. Introduce the ZedBoard, a Community-Based Development Kit for the Xilinx Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform

PHOENIX (USA) – June 4, 2012

Avnet Electronics Marketing and Digilent, Inc., today announced that order entry is now available for the ZedBoard, a community oriented development kit for the Xilinx Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform (EPP). ZedBoard is ideal for designers and students who are interested in exploring and prototyping their application ideas for the new Zynq-7000 EPP architecture. The commercial version of the ZedBoard is available from Avnet for USD 395; the academic version is available from Digilent for USD 299. For more information visit www.ZedBoard.org.

Features of the ZedBoard include:

  • Xilinx Zynq XC7Z020 EPP device
  • Memory (512 MB DDR3, 256 Mb QSPI Flash, 4 GB SD Card)
  • On-board USB-JTAG programming
  • 10/100/1G Ethernet
  • USB OTG 2.0 and USB-UART
  • PS & PL I/O expansion (FMC, Pmod™, XADC)
  • Multiple display output capability (1080p HDMI, 8-bit VGA, 128x32 OLED)
  • I2S Audio Codec

The ZedBoard kit includes the ZedBoard, power supply, USB cable, and pre-configured SD card containing a bootable Linux reference design. ZedBoard.org will host additional user created reference designs and projects, enabling the community of Zynq-7000 EPP designers to collaborate and share design ideas.

“Avnet worked alongside a number of our suppler partners to develop a feature-rich development board at an attractive price point,” said Jim Beneke, vice president, global technical marketing, Avnet Electronics Marketing. “The functionality of ZedBoard, coupled with the added benefit of the ZedBoard.org community gives engineers the opportunity to create and share design projects and add-on modules that will accelerate their application development.”

“Digilent is excited to help bring Xilinx’s Zynq technology to universities and broader markets worldwide” said Clint Cole, president of Digilent, Inc. “Zynq’s combination of dual-ARM® cores and programmable logic on a single device means engineers with more diverse backgrounds can build highly integrated systems.” Cole added “The ZedBoard surrounds the Zynq chip with everything needed to build high-performance application-specific digital systems. All of the interfaces have been thoroughly tested and debugged, so engineers and students can start working with their specific designs immediately.”

“The ZedBoard serves as an exceptional evaluation and starter platform for engineers new to the Zynq-7000 EPP and its combination an industry-standard ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processing system with Xilinx 28nm programmable logic,” said Jim Burnham, Xilinx’s Boards and Kits product manager. “The ZedBoard delivers an optimal balance of features, low risk and low costs to engineers designing for a wide range of control, bridging, communications, and intelligent video applications.”
